Latest Sales Statistics

(Please note: article written by Johnathan Coley of Nintendo Insider, not me)
Sales in Japan for the week of August 1st through August 7th were again through the roof - 191.40% of the weekly average. Once again, the Nintendo DS is the top system in Japan (sales for a new DS color will show up on next week's charts), with the GameCube selling a bit more than usual (though not by much) thanks to a Pokemon XD GameCube bundle.

But Pokemon didn't reach the top spot -- that award goes to Konami's World Soccer Winning Eleven 9 for PlayStation 2, which had a whopping 573,847 sales. Square-Enix's Grandia III for PlayStation 2 was in second with 121,935 sales, while Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness was in third with 103,080 sales.

Fouth through seventh place are all PlayStation 2 games -- Banpresto's Summon Night EX Thesis: Yoake no Tsubasa (95,487), Banpresto's Super Robot Wars Alpha 3 (52,649), From Software's Armored Core: Last Raven (49,203) and SCE's Bleach: Erabareshi Tamashii (41,736). But Nintendo made a showing at the end, with the June 30th DS release Gentle Brain Exercises at #8 (28,291), Sega's June 23rd GBA release The King of Beetle Mushiking: Greatest Champion at #9 (25,247), and Konami's new Power Pocket Koushien for Nintendo DS at #10 (21,525).

Jump Superstars for Nintendo DS released August 8th (with pre-sales over 200,000), along with a new Nintendo DS color, so next week's charts should be very interesting.
